Nep Jennings and JP ONE’s 2016 release, Real Motown Music, was regarded as one of the best rap albums of the year, won awards to say as much and was nominated for such awards at other ceremonies. Not long after its release JP ONE plead guilty to a federal drug conspiracy charge and was sentenced to do sixty months in the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Nep Jennings released a couple great projects while he was gone, including Mr. Jennings in 2020, but now that the two are back together, they are looking to build on what looked like a pinnacle, but was just a foundation
Real Motown Music 2 doesn’t have an official release date, but the pair has released a new single and if “Been Here Before” is a preview of what is to come, we are in for another treat. The BJ Gates produced (Nep Jennings co-produced) song features Rodelle Nathan on the hook and details a couple tragic stories about females who had the potential to be something great but became victims of circumstances. With all the bubble gum music on the radio, this form of reality music is well-needed and stands in its own lane.
The future is looking very promising, but they have already been here before. JP ONE states, “It’s not about the potential of the project. It’s about making the impact we couldn’t make with the first one. The music is never in question. We are trying to make sure we can reach the biggest audience possible. We are doing everything we can to make sure that part is taken care of this time around.” With this type of focus, nothing can stop them.
